RE: Video Denouncing President Elect Trump
Date: November 17, 2016
Dear Dr. Savoie
The Conscientious Council of Black Elders (C.C.B.E.) is a network of progressive multi talented,
resourceful and conscientious Black Men and Women who value the concept of self-determination. As
an independent community based organization and advocacy group out of Lafayette, LA, we are
committed to advising/counseling, producing and/or researching available resources for the purpose of
building, representing and protecting the collective interest of the Black Community. Our central focus
involves but is not limit to improving the path way for upward mobility and equity in Black communities
which includes politics, economics, corrective education, social values, history and culture by any
means deem necessary.
It is with much concern that C.C.B.E. viewed the recent video allegedly denouncing President Elect
Donald Trump. Black athletes who are members of UL’s football team were videoed in the locker room
chanting F##k Donald Trump! Unfortunately, what was more disturbing to C.C.B.E. was the reaction of
the University and some of it supporters!
Be crystal clear on this point, Sir! No reasonable thinking person in the Black community would
condone the manner in which the Black student athletes delivered their message. However, the
essence of their expressed thoughts about President Elect Donald Trump, no matter how crudely
pronounced, are accurate depictions and are shared sentiments concerning Mr. Trump in the majority
of Black communities across America. The degrading assessment of Mr. Trump by many in Black
communities, ironically, stem from his so-called locker room talk that was viewed nationally and
internationally. Mr. Trump now President Elect Trump has never apologized for his bigotry, disrespect
for women, or much less his racist views toward Black people, Hispanics, Native Americans and
Mexicans. On the contrary, Mr. Trump was rewarded for his White supremacist views and degrading
behavior by becoming the President Elect.
Therefore, for the UL’s administration to become out raged with a few Black athletes who chose to
exercise their First Amendment Rights of Freedom of Speech is hypocritical and appears to be
diabolical in its intent. The University’s reaction is hypocritical in that if the Black students involved
were not valued athletes they would have been dealt with unfairly, swiftly and harshly in the name of
discipline and respect for the racist President Elect, Mr. Trump. Due to the intricate economic value of
Black athletes for the university, as in times of physical slavery, the hard working valuable slaves were
not easily killed off but were made to submit to a more obedient form of behavior. Once the rebellious
slaves value were diminished so did their survival!
According to a recent local television news report on channel 10, UL’s Head Football Coach Mark
Hudspeth, announced regrets for the Black athletes behavior but insured the public they will be made to
repent. Among a list of reprisals included, he stated, “1000 hours of community service” in which the
athletes will be brought to every middle and high schools in the area and have them express their
remorse and shame to help prevent future rebelliousness from up coming athletes. He further stated,
that the athletes involved were willing and remorseful! In other words, these are valuable workhorses
for the athletic program we cannot afford to lose them. Again as in the ‘Willie Lynches’ Teaching’ let’s
not destroy the valuable rebellious slaves lets just break them like horses to our liking!
Dr. Savoie, with all due respect, the entire Black community in Southwest Louisiana should be outraged
with UL’s outrage in this incident! As a public tax supported educational institution UL chooses to insult
the Black community everyday! Your administration as well as previous UL administrations may not
have publicly used the expletive ' F##k the Black Community' but the university's treatment and
attitude of the Black community interest appears to be no different then President Elect Trump a
pronounced racist and bigot! Under the auspices of cultural pride and economic greed the university is
a major collaborator along with other public entities in fostering Black Cultural Genocide. The
university’s promotion of Cajun as a mascot may pump up some White folks and less informed Black
people with cultural pride but not for the well informed members of the Black community. It’s viewed as
an insult and the proliferation of Black Culture Genocide!
The Black athletes in question were viewed in a video chanting ’F## K Donald Trump!’ However
historically, the term Cajun in the White and Black communities in Southwest Louisiana was equivalent
to its twin derogatory slur term Nigger! Racist White people created both terms. In fact it was the most
potent verbal defense Black people had against Whites that called them Nigger. To call a white person
a red neck Cajun was the ultimate insult and disrespect for their essence! Now, the university plays a
major role in marketing everything of worth- persons, places and things as Cajun in Southwest
Louisiana. In light of the fact that tax dollars are used for most of the propaganda, for Black people this
is not only cultural genocide but also taxation without representation! Sir, that is diabolical!
Finally, the University has no moral position that it can justify or the Black community should respect.
Collectively speaking, the selfish and reckless proliferation of Cajun/Acadian for the at large Black
community is White Colonialism. It represents cultural terrorism, economic exploitation, and cultural
piracy. It also produces counter productive divisions in the Black family, and induces historical
confusion and self-hate among Black children. That's clearly a recipe for Black cultural genocide and
economic oppression. In brief, the un-necessary selfish promotion of Cajun is a government funded
‘Nigger Making Process for Black people all over again'. Under the circumstances, C.C.B. E. will
not sit idle by and permit UL without challenge to engage in a process of modern day "Plantation Buck
Breaking” by shaming strong Black men into submission because they don’t embrace President Elect
Trump, a flamboyant national exposed racist and bigot!
For years Black children have been mis-educated to love and respect dead white presidents; many of
whom were slave owners while simultaneously denied the truth about worthy Black people. Ideally Sir,
no Black athlete should be encouraged to attend UL under this blatant dis-regard for Black people’s
worth!
I await the day when strong Black athletes both Men and Women at UL, will stand firm and boldly shout
out 'I will not play if you call me Cajun.' As a public educational institution the inappropriate use of
the term Cajun as it relates to the history of Black people, a racial slur equal to the term Nigger, warrant
an investigation from the NCAA. Dr. Savior I am certain that any Black student who would acknowledge
this truth would be identified as a rebellious student using the standards of the university. But, for Black
people it would be a defensive act for self-determination and self love! Will UL’s administration
denied those students their First Amendment Rights of Freedom of Speech as well? Black I am
Cajun/Creole I am Not!
Yours in truth,
Takuna Maulana EL Shabazz
