"Boycott" U.L.L. Athletics"
Question?
What can Black people do to address the insensitive and insulting promotion of Cajun in Black Communities?
Answer!
Initiate the Economic, Psychological and Political Action Plan suggested by C.C.B.E. to reject Cajun in the Black Community. U.L.L. athletics along is projected to gross $37 to $55 million dollars this year. In spite of what you have been told the Black community is not helpless! The fact is the Black community controls much of the $55 million dollars because the Black athletes are our children. U.L.L. has no successful athletic program without Black athletes. I dare them to try to do what they have done without our Black athletes. Therefore, simply cultivate an Un-Cajun spirit in the Black community and educate the Black athletes to your reasons if they become concerned.
C.C.B.E. believes our young men and women at U.L.L. are strong but are controlled my fear and lack of knowledge of the historical relationship between the terms Cajun and Nigger. WE MUST stand up like strong Black Men and Women and become living examples of freedom, justice and equality for our children! Let's start with the U.L.L. vs Southern football game!
~Action Plan~
A) UNDERSTAND - that it is a historical truth that the terms Cajun and Nigger were equivalent derogatory racial slurs and meant the same thing for a long time and still do in the minds of many Black people in Southwest Louisiana. Nigger is still used as a racial slur for all Black people.
B) WITHDRAW - your enthusiasm for all U.L.L. athletic functions by NOT attending. Especially, those athletic events where there are majority of Black athletes such as football, basketball and track events. "Shut'em Down" No More Black Recruits For U.L.L.! Shut'em Down!
C) STOP - commercializing Cajun paraphernalia by wearing Cajun T-shits, riding Cajun Cabs, buying pencils, notebooks and other school items from Cajun stores.
D) VOICE-your concerns forcefully to Black community leaders, politicians, campus organizations, radio and television stations, churches and others in the community regarding WHY the Civic Center is being called the Cajun Dome!
E) BECOME - a selective consumer and Do Not purchase food products that have been Re-labeled as Cajun. These same products are available under other well-known brand names. After all - what is Cajun rice, Cajun nuggets, Cajun pepper, Cajun watermelon, Cajun burger, Cajun bread ...etc.? That's like buying Cajun Sunshine! Ridiculous, isn't it!
F) STOP - pacifying and making excuses for the U.L.L. Black athletes. Make sincere efforts to educate them to the issues. If they chose not to respond appropriately, then ostracize them in Black communities for their lack of courage and self imposed fears concerning the Cajun concept. Their fear of losing their scholarships can and must be solved by them first uniting as intelligent self respecting Black Men and Women shouting out clearly - I WILL NOT PLAY IF I AM CALLED CAJUN!
They must come to know the issues and respond from a position of strength! Then, the at large Black community, with every other righteous progressive thinking U.L.L. students, MUST stand-up in support of them with every fiber of their being. U.L.L. like most universities have diminished athletic strength without the Black athletes. If U.L.L. Black athletes are Ragin Cajuns then Black Birds are White Doves!
G) UNDERSTAND - that the Cajun community NOT the Black community is benefiting significantly from the reckless promotion of Cajun culture and that includes the economic success of U.L.L.'s athletic program.
H) KNOW - that it is immoral for a public tax supported educational institution, to inflect mental anguish on an entire community by attempting to RAPE that community of its' uniqueness as a people and true identity for the purpose of economic, political and cultural exploitation driven by greed!
I) UNDERSTAND - that it is insane (not normal) TO PASSIVELY participate economically, culturally and politically in our own genocide as a Black community! If we continue to do so, we certainly deserve the Cajun Dome, Cajun Cabs, Ragin Cajun Black athletes, Cajun Bread, Cajun Sunshine, Cajun Chicken, Cajun Schools, Black Cajun Children, Cajun Watermelon, Zyde - Cajun Music etc.
J) DON'T - be fooled with the term Acadian! It means the same thing as Cajun. Acadiana is Acadian mis-spelled, however, both make reference to a European origin. Stop naming your businesses and organizations Acadiana this or that! Black people are of Black and African descent and you live in Southwest La.!
K) UNDERSTAND - that Black people and other third world people who inhabit Southwest Louisiana are more inclined to co-exist peacefully with other groups by nature, including Cajun people. However, for Black people to do so we must be able to demonstrate the right to be self-detrmined to Respected and Protected self and kind or Cajun will always BE Rejected!
M) KNOW YOUR RIGHTS- as a U.L.L. student you may have been charged a pre-payment fee for athletic events in your tuition fee. If you don't want to attend athletic events due to stress from witnessing Black student athletics being label as Cajuns, seek a refund. Next, demand that U.L.L. remove the term Ragin Cajun from your school ID card. --- Be prepared to register your concerns with the National Collegiate Athletic Association. (NCAA) in writing. Investigate the possibility of a class action suit against the university for institutional racism!
Advocate for a collective assessment of the range of damage done to Black communities in Southwest Louisiana, induced by the selfish and reckless promotion of Cajun mania. Then get involve with existing community groups and organize to demand Reparations, citing cultural genocide, historical piracy and taxation without representation as causal determinacy.
N) Organize Now - a strategy to demand our fair share of the hundreds of millions of tax dollars slated to be spent on the massive future development of Lafayette that's associate with the I-49 corridor and the projected completed loop around the city. The core of the infrastructure near the down town area is design to reflect, glorify, justify, magnify and solidify Cajun culture and history from a selfish distorted point of view with our tax dollars. A flash of Black History is thrown in for pacification and appeasement. The Black community does not want or need tokenism by way of Creoleism! We must demand our fair share of the allocated public dollars to develop our own communities to reflect the truth of us. There is no substitute for self-determination! Nor, can the sellout scared to death Negro leadership negotiate this for us. No justice-No Peace! "Where there is the absence of Justice – The presence of Peace is negated by the natural Law of Nature!
O) Regardless - of your race or ethnicity if you disagree with the blatant disrespect of U.L.L.'s Black students and the collective Black community through the selfish promotion of Cajun/Acadiana, return your annual Alumni contribution letter back to the university with the following note: "No Thanks I don't Support Institutional Racism and Cultural Genocide of another people! "
P) ACCEPT-SELF and Kind -- learn and accept the truth of your Black history as the Mothers and Fathers of civilization. Help build your community and your personal life on the foundation of courage and wisdom that our ancestors laid out for us. There is no power outside of you that is greater than the God power in you. One, who lives in constant fear and is made to feel helpless in overcoming that fear, ultimately, does not truly live; but merely represent a living example of a pointless existence. Fear no one, Brothers and Sisters, but the Creator who placed you on this earth! The Black identity must not be lost; it must be kept regardless of the cost!
Say it loud and forceful, “Black I AM - Cajun, Acadian or Creole - I am Not! "
It is time to Rise Again Blackman, Woman, and Child and reclaim our original Greatness!"
Cajun, It Just Ain't Us!
